Victory Sermon Series: This We Know For Sure

RSS

the big idea:

Satan has blinded the minds of the people of this world convincing them that they cannot be absolutely certain about anything. The consequences of this lie are staggering. There is no solid foundation to build our lives upon. I’m not sure where I came from. I’m not sure what I’m doing here. And I’m not sure where I’ll be going. My life is filled with all kinds of doubts and subsequently…all kinds of fears. The country song writer said it well: “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” Easter gives us a certainty that we can build our lives around. We know who we are. We know where we stand with God. We know what we’re doing here. And we know whom we can trust.

the breakdown:

ImageMarch 28 (Palm Sunday): God Really Loves Me!

How do we know God loves us? Many look around and are convinced that God cannot possibly love this world. If he did, there wouldn’t be so much hardship and pain. Yet, as Jesus turns his face toward Jerusalem, we see very clearly the depth of his love. Nothing and no one, not even his own fear, was going to stop him from riding into Jerusalem to die.
Scriptures: Isaiah 45:22-25; Hebrews 12:1-3; Luke 19:28-40; Psalm 24
Sermon Text: Hebrews 12:1-3

ImageApril 4 (Easter Sunday): Jesus Left the Grave Behind!

Is the battle won? Is death defeated? Is there hope beyond the grave? The experience of life shouts “No!” over and over again. But the fact remains. Jesus tomb was empty on Easter Sunday. Just as the first fruits of the season are the guarantee of more to come, so Jesus resurrection is the guarantee that we, too, will one day rise to live with God forever.
Scriptures: Exodus 5:1-11; 1 Corinthians 15:19-26; Luke 24:1-12; Psalm 118
Sermon Text: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

April 11: I’m Good with God!
(Road to Emmaeus Video)
Am I good with God or not? It’s easy to tell yourself, “Yeah, I’m good with God.” But what do you do about the nagging little voice inside that says, “Are you sure you’re good with God? What about all the things you should be doing that you’re not doing? Or all the things you know you shouldn’t be doing, yet you’re doing them anyway? What makes you so sure you’re good with God?” The answer? A risen Savior! When my heart troubles me, he says, “Peace!”
Scriptures: Genesis 15:1-6; 2 Peter 1:16-21; John 20:19-31; Psalm 16
Sermon Text: John 20:19-31

ImageApril 18: I’ve Got a Mission!

What am I supposed to be doing with my life anyway? We think to ourselves, “If I just do this or accomplish that, then I’ll finally feel the sense of accomplishment I’ve been looking for.” But, when it’s all said and done, the degree, the career, the new house, they’re just not as fulfilling as we thought they’d be. And suddenly we’re not so sure what we’re doing here. Jesus’ resurrection assures me that I do have a good reason to get out of bed in the morning. I’ve got work to do that has eternal ramifications.
Scriptures: Acts 9:1-19a; Revelation 5:11-14; John 21:1-14; Psalm 67
Sermon Text: Acts 9:1-19a

ImageApril 25: Jesus Has Got My Back!

There’s nothing more unsettling than the feeling that you are hanging out there all alone, that when all hell breaks loose, there’s no one coming to the rescue. Jesus’ resurrection is the assurance that he’s got your back. He’s gone through the grave and back for you. With that kind of an investment in you, he’s not going to leave you hanging. He’s going to see you through until he brings you safely home.
Scriptures: Ezekiel 34:25-31; Revelation 7:9-17; John 10:22-30; Psalm 23
Sermon Text: John 10:22-30
