We end the summer by taking a close look at four of the shortest books of the New Testament. But don’t let their size fool you. These postcards are packed with timeless truth. Not only do they provide us with a revealing collage of the character of the first century church, but they also provide insight into the heart of our God. Only the ink on the postmarks is as fresh as if these postcards were sent yesterday with applications as personal as if addressed to each of us individually.

August 14: Philemon—Restoring the Fallen

In this heartfelt intercession on behalf of a runaway slave Paul helps us see that Christianity does not help a man escape his past by running away from it, but enables him to face it through forgiveness.

September 4: Jude—Persevering in the Faith

Though Jesus has clearly won the victory over sin and death, the battle for each individual soul rages on. As one of our prayers states: “the times and days are perilous.” God give us the wisdom and the zeal to use the tools he’s given us to persevere in these spiritually dangerous times!
