Victory Sermon Series - Experience The Power Of The Light

the big idea:

Light is power. We feel it when we’re playing or working out in the sun. We see it as we marvel at how green and beautiful and lush our world is. We taste it in the food we eat and experience its energy as this food fuels us.

In this Epiphany season, the Scripture holds out Jesus as the Light of the world. He is the power to remove our sin and reconcile us to God. He is the power to turn unbelieving hearts into believing hearts. He is the power to help us overcome the darkness of our sinful nature. He is the power to open our eyes and see things differently, and not only see them differently, but actually feel differently about them. Join with us in experiencing the power of the Light.

January 9: To Unite Enemies

Sin divides. Hatred, pride, selfishness, prejudice, impatience, lack of forgiveness—these dark fruits of our sinful nature have splintered the people, the nations, and even the churches of this world so terribly that there seems no hope of recovery. Enter the Light of World who through submission and sacrifice unleashed the power to reconcile even the most incorrigible of enemies.

January 16: To Ignite Hearts

The greatest curse of our sinful nature is to be able to see and yet not really see. With the explosion of the information highway and the escalating advancement of technology, we have more information available to us than the generations before us could have ever imagined. And yet our world is as dark and lost as it has even been. That’s because the power to save this world is not found in advancing technology or the wisdom of men. It’s found in the Light.

January 23: To Excite Action

Light makes things happen. It changes our moods. It gives plants the power to grow. It drives the cycles of our seasons and years. The Light of the World changes us too—in profound ways. He fills us with passion for the truth and for others. We can no longer accept the status quo. We feel compelled to leave our lives behind and follow him.

January 30: To Delight in Suffering

What kind of fool would choose to take pleasure in pain and suffering? That would be the fool who has experienced the power of the Light, who has come to understand that in God’s kingdom our ideas of what’s good and beneficial are turned completely upside down.
