Victory Sermon Series - Capture the Meaning of Easter

the big idea:
Easter will soon be here again. It’s a big deal in our lives. We go church. We get together with family. We go out to eat. But, like so many things in life, we just kind of fall into the pattern of things. We do what we always do and don’t take the time to understand why we do it.
What does Easter really mean for my life? How does it change my day-to-day existence? And, if it doesn’t change anything, have I lost sight of Easter’s true meaning? This Easter season as we walk alongside some of the early believers on the first Easter Sunday, we’ll be reminded of what Easter really means and the profound change it brings to our lives.
the breakdown:
April 24: Death Defeated
Imagine a world with no hospice care, no tearful good-byes, no graveside services, no long and lonely days missing the ones you love. For many this describes a dream world. For us who celebrate Easter this “deathless” world is a sure and certain reality. Many of the ones we love are already there and we’re just a few steps behind. “I am the resurrection and the life,” Jesus says, “whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”
Scriptures:
Jonah 2:2-9; Colossians 3:1-4; Matthew 28:1-10; Psalm 118
Sermon Text:
Matthew 28:1-10
May 1: Doubt Removed
Nagging, gnawing spiritual doubts—they eat away at our heart and soul. And there are plenty of reasons for doubt. So many of God’s promises seem to go unfulfilled, so many prayers unanswered, so many bad things happening to good people, so much meaningless sickness and death. Yet, in those moments of doubt Jesus comes to us and says, “See my hands and feet. I was dead, but now I am alive. I keep my promises. Believe!”
Scriptures:
Acts 10:34a,36,39-43; 1 Peter 1:3-9; John 20:19-31; Psalm 16
Sermon Text:
Ruth 1:1-19a
May 8: Hope Restored
If you want see a person who is truly broken it’s the person who has no hope. Hope is the lifeline that helps us through the deepest, darkest days of life. But where do we find hope in a world that is so broken? Where do we find hope living a life that disappoints us over and over again? The truth is, that hope finds us. As we’re walking down those dark and lonely roads of life, Jesus comes to us and opens our eyes to see God’s plans to prosper us and not to harm us, to give us hope and a future.
Scriptures:
Acts 24:10-21; 1 Peter 1:17-21; Luke 24:13-35; Psalm 67
Sermon Text:
Luke 24:13-35
