Romans 1: "A Righteousness from God"
Print
RSS
“For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed” (1:17), serves as the theme for Paul’s letter to the Roman Christians. The good news about Jesus Christ crucified and risen, “the gospel,” is the “power” (1:16) that makes righteousness from God a reality. Notice also that this is
from
God. In other words, the righteousness that Paul describes here is God putting humans in a “right” relationship with himself. And the only way anyone gets to that “right” relationship with God is by trusting in the truth of the good news of Jesus, not by earning it. This is a starting point for Paul in his letter to the Romans because it is the “un-righteousness” of all humankind that makes this righteousness
from
God a necessity (1:18-32).
