"March Madness"= Excitement

It is "March Madness" time of year again. It is that time of year when the sport of basketball steals the spotlight. It is called “Madness” because of all the excitement over nail-biting finishes and unbelievable upsets (last Sunday night the men’s basketball team of Victory of the Lamb faced Star of Bethlehem, New Berlin and took home the tournament championship thanks to the great crowd of fans their to support the team). It is called "Madness" because the taste of victory is sweet in the mouths of sixteen teams. It is an "elite" experience for a narrowed down field of eight schools. And then there is the Final Four, one final weekend and night of excitement to see who remains standing after all the basketball battles!

The season of Lent gets me excited. Does Lent do the same for you? I hope it does. Sometimes the church season of Lent can be wrapped up in sadness, and rightly so, we see our Savior Jesus suffering for the guilt and penalty of our sins at the cross of Calvary. That doesn’t mean that it cannot also be an exciting time. It is exciting news for you and me to hear again the great ending of Christ Jesus' cross when he said, "It is finished" (John 19:30). We see for ourselves the "one shining moment" of that first Easter weekend--only the Lord Jesus remained standing, outside of the grave, in victory over death and the devil. Forgiveness of our sins has been won by Jesus' death and the sure hope of eternal life is ours because of Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus says, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die" (Jn 11:25,26). What great excitement to enjoy during this season of Lent!
